“Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.” - John 20:1
With her fears and her tears, Mary arrives while it is still dark and stands staring down an empty tomb. The Good News she is met with that day is that God does some of God’s best work while it is still dark.
In this season of uncertainty, don’t ignore the work that God is doing in you and through you. It may seem dark and confusing around us but God is still inviting us into the light of the resurrection.
Mary arrived while it was dark and brought her darkness of fear to the empty tomb and it was there that she was met by a risen Jesus who called her by name.
And he knows your name, just as surely as he knew Mary Magdalene’s name. No matter the reasons you doubt, listen for the voice calling your name. No matter the reasons of your fear, listen for the voice calling your name. Because he is calling. Easter continues to happen as Jesus appears to those who have given up hope. He appears to people who have been swallowed up by death and fear.
The power of the resurrection is that Jesus is alive and still calling by name those whose lives carry the stench of death and inviting them to new life in Him.
This is our Easter season!
Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for the gift of new life through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Thank you that through faith you are still resurrecting new life out of the death of sin and despair. Raise us all to new life in you. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
