Support the Baker Glover Community Center

Every now and then a cause ruins the heart of a whole people. We have one here at GFUMC. For 10 years we have been in relationship and ministry with the residents of Baker & Glover Mobile Home Park.  We sense the Lord continuing to open doors in this area of ministry. As a matter of fact, the proposed 2018 budget has a line item: Baker & Glover. And next to it is $60,000!

We sense God calling us to be more of a permanent presence in that community. We sense Him inviting us to deepen our partnership with Him there by launching three things in 2018:

  • Placing a GFUMC double-wide trailer in that community
  • Partnering with a non-profit ministry called The Path Project, a ministry with a history of effectively making a difference in mobile home parks that are primarily Hispanic
  • Funding a full time staff person

These initiatives will enable us to offer onsite after school tutoring along with middle and high school mentoring. As we do life together with these precious sisters and brothers, we feel these are just the beginning of ministries God is going to call into being. We are calling this The Path of Hope initiative. We believe by our direct involvement in the lives of these children and students, a path of hope will be created through education and spiritual growth. And, we want them to know they are loved by God, the source of their ultimate hope.

The high school dropout rate in mobile home parks is as high as 80%. Through your giving and our involvement, we believe by God’s grace we can be a part of a path of hope for a never before imagined future for these students. And I don’t want to stop at high school… Can you imagine seeing these students graduate from college? How about seminary? How about ordination as a United Methodist pastor in the North Georgia Conference?

We don’t want to wait around to launch these initiatives. Our outreach/missions team has done their homework, and we have time to get a person trained and a trailer in place by January 1, if we start acting now. In order to do that, we need $34K of the proposed line item of $60K now.

If every family gave $35.31 over and above their regular giving, we could raise the necessary funds and begin immediately. Your response has been incredible. So far you have given $13,354.25.

I am challenging us to reach this $34,000 goal on this Celebration Sunday. If you have not given yet you can:

  • Drop you contribution by the Church Office
  • Bring your contribution with you this Sunday, I Love My Church Celebration Sunday
  • Go here and select the Path of Hope fund

These are exciting times at GFUMC. The staff and I are so thankful to be a part of this time with you.

Blessings,

Pastor Scott
